Fitness & Gyms review removal: the complete guide

Short answer

A gym can get a Google or Yelp review taken down when the review breaks that platform's published content policy. Reputation Medics files the case for $397 per Google review and $697 per Yelp review. Pay upfront. If the specific Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days of payment, we refund the removal fee to your original payment method. Can a gym get a bad review removed?

Yes, when the review breaks a published platform policy. A truthful account from a real customer stays up, however harsh it reads. Google, Yelp, and the sites we file with make the final removal decision. For upfront payments, what we guarantee is the refund of the removal fee, reviewed and issued by us, if the item remains live past the applicable 30-day or 90-day deadline.

What does review removal cost a gym?

$397 per Google review, $697 per Yelp review, and $497 per harmful link on another site. One price per item, no retainer. Pay upfront. If the specific Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days of payment, we refund the removal fee to your original payment method. No claim or form needed. We review and issue it within 5 business days. Pay upon removal: save a card, pay $0 today, and pay $50 more per item only once each removal is documented. No refund term applies because nothing is charged before removal.

Which reviews qualify for removal?

Reviews that map to a published policy: a reviewer who was never a customer, a competitor or former employee, off-topic content, private details about staff, prohibited language, or specific factual claims your records contradict.

How long does a removal take?

Most Google removals: 7–21 days. Yelp and other platforms: typically 60–90 days. The platform decides the timing. Complex cases involving defamation, legal escalation, coordinated attacks, or many items across platforms are quoted individually through the Custom Care Plan, with their own timeline. Google, Yelp, and the sites we file with make the final removal decision. For upfront payments, what we guarantee is the refund of the removal fee, reviewed and issued by us, if the item remains live past the applicable 30-day or 90-day deadline.

The six grounds a removal gets filed on

Every case cites a documented policy violation. If the review maps to none of these, we say so before you pay.

Not a real customer

The reviewer never bought from you. Wrong business, a competitor, or someone repeating a story they were told.

Conflict of interest

A competitor, a former employee, or anyone with a stake in making the rating drop.

Off-topic content

A complaint about something other than the work you did, or a rant about an unrelated dispute.

Personal information

Names of staff, phone numbers, addresses, or other private details the platforms prohibit.

Hate speech, threats, profanity

Language that breaks the platform's prohibited-content rules regardless of whether the visit happened.

Defamatory or provably false claims

Specific factual assertions about the job that your records contradict.

How buyers of gym services decide

Every trial member reads reviews before walking in. The crisis card above puts the ClassPass premium threshold at 4.7 stars, and below it a studio drops out of the searches where its highest-value members come from.

The trial-class search

Prospects search for a class, read the rating and the two newest reviews, and book a trial or do not. A fresh one-star about cleanliness, pressure to buy a membership or a rude coach is what stops the booking.

The cancellation-fee review

The most common gym review is about a membership cancellation. Many come from people who signed a contract and are angry about the terms rather than the gym, and some from people who never joined. The off-topic ones are worth reporting.

The named-trainer accusation

Reviews that name a trainer and accuse them of injuring a client or behaving inappropriately spread fast and follow the trainer. Unsupported accusations against a named person are a harassment matter under platform rules.

Which sites do gym reviews need removing from?

Booking a gym takes seconds, and the review is read inside the booking app as often as on Google. These are the profiles that matter. Google, Yelp, Booksy, Fresha, ClassPass and Facebook.

Google Business Profile

Primary discovery for local fitness buyers.

Yelp

Detailed reviews from serious fitness prospects.

ClassPass

Booking-platform ranking driven by rating.

Mindbody

Multi-studio booking and reviews at scale.

Facebook

Community engagement and post-class social proof.

What do gyms try first, and why does the review stay up?

Four attempts come up over and over. None of them removes anything, and two of them make the review more visible than it was.

Replying to the review

A public reply moves the review to the top of the profile and marks it as active. It does not remove anything, and on a review that names facts a gym can disprove, a measured reply reads to a stranger as a dispute rather than a correction.

Rebooking the reviewer to fix it

A comped service rarely produces an edit, and it teaches the next unhappy client what a one-star is worth. It also leaves the original review on the gym profile.

Flagging it once and waiting

The in-product flag is a single yes-or-no submission with no place to attach records or cite the policy clause. When it comes back declined there is nothing to appeal, because nothing was argued.

Reporting the photo instead of the review

Photos and reviews are separate items in the platform's system. Removing an image does not remove the text, and a filing has to name both if both break policy.

Which reviews will not come down?

Some reviews have no policy ground, and saying so is part of the job. A gym should not pay for a case that cannot be argued.

A real customer's honest complaint

If the reviewer bought from you and described what happened, the review stays up. No filing changes that, and a gym should not pay for a case that has no policy ground.

An opinion you disagree with

Overpriced, slow, rude, not worth it: these are opinions, and platforms protect them. A factual claim your records contradict is different, and that is what a filing argues.

A one-star with no text

A rating on its own is hard to argue unless the account itself breaks policy, for example a competitor, a former employee, or a review posted to the wrong business.

Anything already removed

If the item comes down before the case is filed there is nothing to remove, and nothing to charge for. Send the link and we check it first.

What happens after a gym case opens

Nothing here is a promise of removal, because that decision belongs to the platform. Most Google removals take 7–21 days; Yelp and other platforms typically take 60–90 days. Complex cases use a Custom Care Plan with their own timeline.

  1. 1

Day 0 · Free scan and eligibility read

We pull the live review or page from Google and Yelp and ClassPass, quote it verbatim, and say which policy it breaks. If nothing breaks a rule we say so and take no fee.

  2. 2

Days 1-3 · Filing with the appointment record

Booking software shows whether the reviewer ever had an appointment. Reviews naming a stylist, artist or trainer with unsupported accusations are filed on the harassment ground instead.

  3. 3

    Platform moderation

Google evaluates reports against its prohibited and restricted content policy; most Google removals take 7–21 days. Yelp and other platforms typically take 60–90 days. The platform decides the timing.

  4. 4

Days 10-21 · Appeal where the first report is declined

A declined report is not the end. Google provides an appeal route for reviews it decides to keep, and a second filing that cites a different policy ground and better evidence is often what moves it.

  5. 5

Day 30 (Google) / Day 90 (Yelp & other platforms): refund deadline

Upfront fees are refunded after our review if a Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days. No claim or form is required. Refunds are issued within 5 business days of the deadline.

What a gym needs before starting a removal

The start form takes a few minutes if you have these four things in front of you. Nothing else is required to open the case.

  • The exact link to the review or page. On Google, open the review, use the three-dot menu and choose Share to copy its direct link. On Yelp, use the share icon under the review. For a harmful page, paste the full URL from the address bar.
  • Your business name exactly as it appears on the profile. Use the gym or studio name from the Google or Yelp listing that carries the review. Franchise locations need the specific location name.
  • Why the item breaks the platform's rules. One or two sentences is enough. Typical grounds for a gym: the reviewer never attended, the review is about a contract term rather than the facility, a former trainer or competitor posted it, or it names a coach with accusations it does not support.
  • Your preferred payment option. Pay upfront: $397 for Google, $697 for Yelp, or $497 for another site or harmful link. Pay upon removal: save a card, pay $0 today, and pay $50 more per item only once each removal is documented. No refund term applies because nothing is charged before removal. Pay upfront. If the specific Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days of payment, we refund the removal fee to your original payment method. No claim or form needed. We review and issue it within 5 business days.

Named staff

Attacks on a named stylist or provider are a harassment matter, not a review

Google's contributions policy prohibits harassment and personal attacks on individuals. For a gym, reviews that call out one person by name with accusations about their character are filed on that ground with the language quoted.

Google Maps Help — Prohibited and restricted content policy for Maps user contributions

No appointment

Booking records decide whether a review reflects a real visit

Where scheduling software shows no appointment for the reviewer, the genuine-experience ground applies. That record is the single most useful thing to have in hand before opening a case.

16 CFR Part 465

Buying reviews to bury a bad one is a federal violation, not a shortcut

Since October 21, 2024 the FTC rule on consumer reviews bans fake reviews, insider reviews presented as customer reviews, and paying for positive or negative reviews, with civil penalties available per violation. For a gym that leaves two lawful moves: earn real reviews, and report the ones that break platform policy.

U.S. Federal Trade Commission, 2024 — Rule on the Use of Consumer Reviews and Testimonials (16 CFR Part 465)

Policy grounds only

Google removes reviews that break a policy, not reviews you dislike

Google's own help documentation says any review can be reported but only content that violates its policies is eligible for removal. That is why a case starts by matching the wording to a named policy: fake engagement, off topic, impersonation, harassment, personal information or conflict of interest.

Price, payment, and refunds

You pay the removal fee upfront so we can begin work. If a specific Google review is not removed within 30 days of payment, or a Yelp review or other-platform item is not removed within 90 days of payment, we refund that item's removal fee to your original payment method after our review. No claim or form is required. Refunds are issued within 5 business days of the applicable deadline. Google, Yelp, and other third-party sites make the final removal decision. Pay upon removal: save a card, pay $0 today, and pay $50 more per item only once each removal is documented. No refund term applies because nothing is charged before removal.

Google, Yelp, and the sites we file with make the final removal decision. For upfront payments, what we guarantee is the refund of the removal fee, reviewed and issued by us, if the item remains live past the applicable 30-day or 90-day deadline.

Fitness & Gyms review removal questions

A member threatened a one-star unless we waived their cancellation fee, then posted it. Can it come down?

Keep the message. Reviews used as leverage violate conflict-of-interest rules on Google and Yelp, and a documented demand is one of the clearer removal cases we file.

Can you remove a review from ClassPass or Mindbody?

Self-serve removal covers Google at $397, Yelp at $697 and harmful links at $497. Booking platforms each run their own dispute process, and we walk through it with you in a consultation rather than charging for a filing that may have no route.

A review says our trainer injured someone we have no record of. What can you do?

A review describing a session that never happened fails the genuine-experience rule, and an unsupported injury accusation against a named trainer falls under harassment policy. We file on both grounds. The platform decides, and for upfront payment, the applicable 30-day Google or 90-day Yelp refund applies if the review remains live.

What the published data says

Each line below is the figure as its publisher states it, with the citation beside it. Nothing here is averaged, adjusted, or restated.

  • Average monthly dues of $65 in 2023, with roughly 67% of members paying under $50 and the $100-plus tier growing 7.9%; median EBITDA margin of 23.6% across 175 companies and more than 17,000 facilities. Limitation: dues come from a self-reported consumer panel, the margin sample is global and skewed toward multi-club operators, and EBITDA is not the same as operating margin.
